Job Description


The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) is seeking Tribunal Officers to work in our Adelaide Registry.

Tribunal Officers work across all divisions, providing information to parties, their representatives and the general public on the operation and procedures of the AAT. The roles process applications, facilitate listings, conferences and other alternative dispute resolution processes, and provide administrative and hearing support services to AAT members.

Candidates should demonstrate an ability to build positive professional relationships with clients and colleagues in a team environment. You will have well-developed communication skills and be customer focused. You will also have strong organisational skills and be able to manage a diverse workload and competing priorities.

You will also have an ability to research, interpret and apply legislation, policies and procedures and display a general knowledge of the jurisdiction of the AAT and administrative review.

The AAT generally requires Australian citizenship as a condition of engagement. All employees who are engaged are required to undertake an Australian Federal Police Check. Employees who are engaged on an ongoing basis are required to undertake a health assessment.

Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for a specified term

Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for up to 12 months with a possibility of extension up to 3 years.

An order of merit established through this selection process may be used to fill this or future vacancies on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis.

About Administrative Appeals Tribunal 

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) has offices located in all states of Australia and the Australian Capital Territory and provides independent review of a wide range of administrative decisions made by the Australian Government, some non-government bodies and the Norfolk Island Government.

On 1 July 2015 the Migration Review Tribunal, Refugee Review Tribunal and Social Security Appeals Tribunal were merged with the AAT. The amalgamated AAT comprises a number of Divisions: Social Services and Child Support, Migration and Refugee, and General and Other.
