Duties


The Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) is Australia’s independent national quality assurance and regulatory agency for higher education. TEQSA commenced operations on 29 January 2012 under the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011. All providers that offer higher education qualifications in or from Australia must be registered by TEQSA.

The Government is seeking to appoint an outstanding leader to a Commissioner role, with appropriate knowledge and expertise in regulatory practice, higher education and quality assurance.

Commissioners are responsible for making regulatory decisions, setting strategic directions, monitoring risk in the sector, and deciding on matters relating to the development of the agency’s quality assurance and regulatory framework. The Commissioners are also collectively the accountable authority for TEQSA.

To be a strong contender for this nationally important role, you will need to demonstrate:
• exceptional leadership and vision with an understanding of, or experience with, the higher education sector at a senior level;
• experience in administrative decision making where a high level of judgement is required;
• a high standard of professional and personal integrity and capacity to promote these in an organisation;
• sound knowledge of, or experience with, principles and systems of quality assurance;
• experience with the establishment and maintenance of systems relating to risk and control; and
• high-level stakeholder engagement, together with strong communication, representational and negotiation skills.

Experience of regulatory environments is highly desirable.
 

Eligibility


The successful candidate will have (or the ability to obtain) a Baseline security clearance.

Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for a specified term

The Australian Government Minister for Education appoints the Commissioner under s138 of the TEQSA Act. The successful applicant will be appointed on a part-time, non-ongoing basis for a period of up to five years.
