Job Description


The Risk Assessment Capability (RAC) Program of the APVMA is responsible for the risk assessments of safety, efficacy and trade aspects of applications for the approval of chemical substances, registration of chemical products, approval of permits to use a chemical for a specific purpose, and the review of existing chemical products and their uses.

Position summary:
Under broad guidance, the Portfolio Manager provides support to the Executive Director RAC, Assessment team Directors and other APVMA staff focusing on:
•Preparation of, and assistance in the preparation of, briefs and other documents for various technical and non-technical audiences associated with the regulation of Agvet chemicals.
•Provision of oversight of coordination and reporting between assessment teams within RAC and with the greater APVMA and its contractors to ensure that processing timeframes are met.
•Liaison with applicants, the Agvet chemical industry, producer industries and other stakeholders.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:
To be a strong contender for the role you will be a resilient, outcome driven person with a proven ability to:
•Prepare high level written material incorporating scientific and technical considerations relating to any aspect of Agvet chemical regulation and building on material developed by risk assessment teams into briefs for decision makers, for ministerial correspondence, and general responses to other stakeholders, including public interest groups and the media, and in the preparation of other corporate documents as required.
•Provide high level peer review and scientific editorial advice to risk assessment teams to ensure documents are publication ready.
•Monitor and report on program performance using a variety of spreadsheet and database tools.
•Use project management principles and design and implement efficient workflow and related practices with a focus on continuous process improvement.
•Personally engage with clients and stakeholders on complex issues.
•Assist in the development and implementation of strategies, operational policies, priorities and work practices for the Risk Assessment Capability program to achieve results in line with APVMA operational goals.


This position is a security assessed position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a security assessment to obtain a baseline clearance, and to maintain that level of clearance while in the role.


Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for a specified term

This role may be available on an ongoing basis or as a non-ongoing opportunity up to 18 months with the potential for extension up to a total maximum period of 3 years.
