Duties


The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) is Australia’s national criminal intelligence agency. We advise senior decision makers on serious and organised crime impacting Australia. We are a full member of the National Intelligence Community, a Department of Home Affairs portfolio agency, and a member of the Five Eyes Law Enforcement Group.

The Capability Support Officer within Covert Operational Capabilities team is at the forefront of the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission’s (ACIC) modern surveillance capabilities. This role is, responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of specialist technical capabilities in support of the agency’s tactical and strategic operational intelligence needs. Particularly as it relates to serious and organised crime.

The occupant of this position will work in a multi-disciplinary team requiring them to flexible, innovative, self-motivated and committed. This position requires a motivated individual, who has demonstrated experience in providing technical support within a law enforcement or security environment. Working under operational pressures the occupant will be relied upon to provide support of capabilities and equipment used by ACIC’s operatives, including Technical, Physical Surveillance teams.

The occupant of this position may also be required to work within on-call arrangements which may include periods away from home and travel at short notice.

 

Eligibility


The filling of this vacancy is intended to constitute an affirmative measure under section 8(1) of the 'Racial Discrimination Act 1975'. This vacancy is only available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

This is a position of trust. The occupant must satisfy and abide by the ACIC’s security requirements, which include Australian citizenship. The occupant must also satisfy a rigorous security assessment by the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency and is required to gain and maintain an NV1 clearance. In assessing suitability for employment the ACIC conducts a pre-employment screening process. This requires the applicant to complete a pre-employment screening form for the purpose of character and background checking, and a psychological assessment.

This position has limited contact with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, communities and service providers, but is still required to have the capacity and willingness to further develop these skills.
