The Hostel
Our hostel in Northcote is a multipurpose hostel meaning the residents may stay with us whilst receiving medical treatment, whilst seeking employment or longer term accommodation in the area, or simply passing through the region.

The Positions
AHL is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to join AHL in a fast paced, operational environment. Reporting to an Operations Manager, The Assistant Hostel Manager is a critical position, overseeing the day to day operations of a hostel to ensure appropriate and efficient services are delivered to our residents. Success in this role requires strong management experience, commitment and passion for servicing the indigenous community, and willingness to work “on the ground”. If you have experience working in a management role in the accommodation/hospitality industry and are skilled in staff supervision, property management, reservation management systems, and can ensure workplace health and safety, we invite you to apply. This busy role requires shift work and has constantly changing priorities, therefore excellent organisational skills are required.

We are looking for people who:
• are committed to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
• have a strong focus on customer service, with the ability to communicate effectively, and work in a team environment
• are in good physical health and can walk, lift and carry, and who can work to a flexible schedule


• Current CPR training and First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain
• Current Drivers Licence.

• Certificate III in Community Services or equivalent
• Previous management experience in a residential environment.

• Hold Australian Citizenship
• Obtain a Working with Children’s Check
• Satisfactory National Criminal History Check
• Satisfactory Medical Assessment
• Satisfactorily complete a Probation period.


Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for a specified term

Non-Ongoing employment will be offered for up to 18 months with the possibility of extension.
Ongoing employment may be offered within 12 months of this advertisement.
