Duties

Our Secondary Education Hostels are dedicated to providing a Home Away from Home for young indigenous Australians (aged 12-18 years) who are accepted into partner schools (grades 7 - 12). Our commitment in our student hostels is to ensure that we provide:
• A Home Away from Home experience where students have ongoing access to educational, emotional, social, economic and cultural development;
• A fair, honest and culturally respectful environment that values each student and their connection to country;
• The highest level of care and protection;
• Nutritious meals;
• Extra-curricular activities; and travel to and from school each day.

As a Head of Boarding (APS 6)or Deputy Head of Boarding (APS 5) you will be critical in managing and supervising the day to day operations of the hostel to ensure appropriate pastoral care is provided to students. You will be a leader for the Residential Youth Workers and key contact for students, teachers, parents and stakeholders. You will have prior management experience and be able to manage staff matters as well as difficult student situations and behaviors.

Through this recruitment round, AHL will establish a merit list to fill vacancies that arise within the next 12 months. Future (expected) vacancies may arise in the below locations:

Wadeye, Thursday Island.

Eligibility

To be eligible for engagement and to maintain employment, applicants must:
• Provide proof of Australian citizenship
• Hold (and maintain) a Working with Children Check in the relevant state (prior to engagement)
• Undergo a satisfactory National Criminal History Check (prior to engagement)
• Meet fitness for duty requirements (prior to engagement) and
• Satisfactorily complete a six month probationary period (once employed).

Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for a specified term

A specified term of up to 12-18 months initially with the possibility of extension up to 3 years in total.

Ongoing appointment may occur within 12 months of this advertisement.
