Job Description

Duties

• Visionary and Strategic Leadership Opportunity
• Lead the Future Development of Fast Rail in Australia
• Canberra based

On 1 July 2019, the Australian Government established the National Faster Rail Agency to deliver on the Government’s rail commitment and investment.

To better align future population growth with long term infrastructure investment, the Government has developed a 20-year plan for a Faster Rail Network to boost our major regional centres and take pressure off our largest cities.

The National Faster Rail Agency will be responsible for implementing the Government’s 20-year Faster Rail Plan—supporting the Government on planning for Australia’s population needs to ensure we can deliver better connectivity to our regions and cities.

The Faster Rail plan is centred on delivering faster, more efficient and reliable journey times along strategic corridors that link our major cities and growing regional centres. It will help shape the future growth of our cities and regions; bring people, jobs and services closer together; provide a catalyst for greater investment in the regions; and, over time, help take pressure off Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

The creation of this Agency and the accompanying CEO position provides a landmark opportunity for an experienced executive to lead the Australian Government’s commitment to fast rail networks.

The CEO role will be an exceptional opportunity for candidates with demonstrated experience in leadership of large government programs, business case development, strategic stakeholder management, and who have exceptional political and commercial acumen.

This role is an opportunity for someone who is visionary, a strategic thinker with demonstrable capabilities in financial management, people management, and fostering a high performance culture across the organisation.

To satisfy the demands of this role, candidates will need to have extensive experience at a senior executive level with proven ability to balance commercial and public policy objectives within a strategic and diverse environment.
