2019/2020 Vacation Internship Programme.

The National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) Vacation Internship Programme is a great opportunity to make a tangible contribution to safe and environmentally responsible Australian offshore energy and greenhouse gas storage industries and gain valuable workplace experience.

NOPSEMA is offering structured paid work experience over the 2019/2020 vacation period for an undergraduate student in their penultimate or final year of study at university.

The programme will commence on Monday, 25 November 2019 and will conclude on Friday, 14 February 2020.

This programme is open to a student studying in a field of engineering that is relevant to the oil and gas industry.

The successful applicant will undertake and complete a project that will provide an opportunity to acquire knowledge and experience of working in NOPSEMA's Safety and Integrity Division and gain broader insights into our operations.

To be eligible for the 2019/2020 Vacation Internship Programme, you must:
• be an Australian Citizen;
• be an undergraduate university student in your penultimate or final year of study;
• have maintained at least a credit average; and
• be available for up to 12 weeks within the period from Monday, 25 November 2019 to Friday, 14 February 2020.

You will be required to provide:
• your resume;
• the name and contact details of your Program Coordinator / Supervisor plus one other referee; and
• in no more than 250 words per response to the following:
o your reasons for applying to participate in this programme;
o how your course of study aligns to NOPSEMA’s vision and purpose “to independently and professionally regulate offshore safety, integrity and environmental management” in the Australian offshore energy and greenhouse gas storage industries; and
o how you would apply your skills, knowledge and current studies to complete a project within a defined timeframe.

The position is based in NOPSEMA’s Perth office. Please note that no relocation assistance will be offered and any successful intra or interstate candidate will be responsible for their own travel, accommodation and associated costs.

Following a number of independent reviews, the Commonwealth, States and Northern Territory agreed to establish a offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) as a statutory body regulating petroleum safety in coastal waters. NOPSEMA’s prime focus is to improve safety outcomes across the offshore petroleum industry and deliver world class safety and environmental management regulation. NOPSEMA is responsible to the relevant Commonwealth, State and Northern Territory Ministers. Its staff, excluding the CEO, is employed under the Public Service Act 1999. NOPSEMA’s mission is to deliver world class health and safety regulation for the Australian offshore petroleum industry. Our role is to: work with the industry, workforce and other authorities to ensure all health and safety risks in the offshore petroleum industry are properly controlled; to administer offshore petroleum health and safety legislation; and to promote a legislative framework which encourages continuous improvement in the management of health and safety in the offshore petroleum industry.
