Job Description


The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) provides regulatory services for the supply of safe and effective agricultural and veterinary (agvet) chemicals in Australia.

We regulate the manufacturing and supply of pesticides including, herbicides, biocides, insecticides, and seed treatments; animal antibiotics, hormonal treatments and some stock feeds and pet foods. We also regulate household products such as insect repellents, garden sprays and pool chemicals.

Based in our new office in Armidale NSW, the APVMA in Armidale offers exciting opportunities for a challenging career where you can apply your scientific and or administrative expertise for the benefit of all Australians. You will play an important role in working as part of a broader team that delivers efficient regulatory services to support Australia’s agvet chemical industry and Australian agriculture.

We are seeking applications from people who are interested in short-term/temporary opportunities that may arise across the Agency in areas such as Risk Assessment Capability, Office of the Chief Regulatory Scientist, Governance, Corporate Services and Legal. Roles vary across classification levels from APS 3 to higher level Specialised/technical positions and may be available on a full-time, part time or casual basis.



To be eligible for employment with the APVMA an applicant must be an Australian citizen. An applicant's suitability for employment with the Agency will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement for the applicant to undergo and satisfy a policy history check, referee checks, character clearance and where relevant a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a period of up to 6 months probation. An applicant must also be willing and eligible to undergo and maintain an Australian Government security clearance to the appropriate level is applicable to the position.


The Salary range is in accordance with the APVMA 2017-2020 Enterprise Agreement.

Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for a specified term

Non-ongoing (full-time/part-time) positions will be offered for a period of up to 18 months. Casual employment may be considered for one-off short term tasks or where there is no regular pattern of work over a two year period.
