Job Description

Duties

We invite suitably qualified candidates to submit an expression of interest to be considered for appointment as a member of the Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee.

The Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee (ERAC) is an independent, expert statutory committee established under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011. The Committee advises the Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction on the integrity of the rules (methods) that determine eligible activities under the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF). Methods are legislative instruments that apply to ERF projects covering activities in agriculture, energy efficiency, facilities, mining oil and gas, transport, vegetation management, waste and wastewater.

The ERF is an economy wide, voluntary scheme that creates an incentive for Australian businesses, local councils, state governments, land managers and others to take practical action to reduce emissions and improve the environment. The objective of the scheme is to help achieve Australia’s 2020 and 2030 emissions reduction targets.

The Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee meet approximately six times a year in Canberra. Members undertake additional work between meetings as members of sub-committees. Members are required to prepare for and attend meetings and sub-committee meetings. Time may also be required to travel and attend meetings with stakeholders from time to time. In total this equates to approximately four days commitment per month, on average.

Eligibility

Members are required to undertake a National Police Check and sign a Confidentiality and Privacy Deed.

Notes

Please note that successful candidates will not be employed under the PS Act 1999.

Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for a specified term
