Job Description

Duties


In consultation with the AFP Organisational Health’s interdisciplinary team, the Mental Health Nurse provides specialised health advice and assessment to support AFP members and operational requirements.

The successful applicants will assess, advise and implement health strategies to enable AFP operations. This results in a reduced risk to the individual and the organisation.

The successful applicants will be required to:

• Work collaboratively within the Organisational Health multidisciplinary team to provide a stepped care approach to promoting optimal mental health, prevent physical and mental health injury, and provide therapeutic interventions.
• Using a holistic approach, work in collaboration with people who are experiencing mental health injury towards recovery including engaging community support and referral pathways.
• Within scope of practice provide mental health assessments and triage of referrals, interventions, education, recommendations, specialist counselling and psychotherapy.
• Data entry of relevant clinical information into AFP electronic medical record systems.
• Assist with review and refinement of existing policies and procedures.
• Other duties as required to support the functions of Organisational Health.
 

Eligibility


• Bachelor Degree in Nursing or equivalent
• Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Current Credentialed Mental Health Nurse status by Australian College of Mental Health Nurses.
• Recognised specialist/post graduate qualification/s in mental health nursing.
• Minimum of 5 years recent experience in providing mental health education, assessment and support.
• Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.

National or International travel may be required.

This is a non-ongoing opportunity for 2 years with options of 1 year plus a further 1 year extension.
