Job Description

Foreign Investment Division (FID)

Australia’s foreign investment regime is globally admired. It facilitates investment that is aligned with our national interest, develops well-functioning markets which encourage consumer and investor confidence, and allows Australia to secure the benefits of global integration.

FID is a unique and dynamic Division, responsible for the efficient and effective administration of the foreign investment regime. FID ensures that the foreign investment policy framework is fit-for-purpose, assesses investment proposals, supports the Foreign Investment Review Board (chaired by David Irvine AO), and provides strategic advice and intelligence to Government.

To ensure that Australia’s approach remains best practice, FID will soon conduct a strategic review of its business/operational model. This will be a significant exercise, requiring deft leadership by the Chief Adviser and Division Head.

As one of Treasury’s bigger, more complex and evolving Divisions, FID also requires its executive team to have strong people and systems leadership skills, including in change management and innovation.

As Chief Adviser, you will partner with the Division Head to lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for administering a regime renowned for excellence.

In so doing, you will offer outstanding people leadership; strategic insights and policy direction; oversight of compliance and case management functions; astute risk management; and a commitment to extending FID’s substantial networks across public, private, academic and community sectors – domestically and internationally.

You will have the opportunity to work actively with other agencies; assess real-world businesses’ capital, expansion and acquisition strategies; and produce advice that takes account of foreign policy, national security, social and economic considerations.

This important role offers the right individual considerable scope to develop a diverse and sophisticated skill set – in a central agency, at the heart of Government.

To contend, you will need the strongest complement of experience and expertise in economic, national security and/or international relations policy; the design and management of business processes; people leadership; risk management; regulation and compliance.

If this sounds like you, please click on the ‘Apply Online’ button at the bottom of this advertisement.

Employees of the Treasury must be Australian citizens and are required to obtain a security clearance prior to commencement and maintain this clearance for the duration of their employment.
