The Roles

ASIO is seeking to fill a range of roles at the First Assistant Director-General (SES Band 2) level and is interested in receiving applications from individuals with a broad and diverse range of backgrounds and skills. Roles may be filled from this process across transformational strategy, policy development, program management and/or delivery, project management and corporate services.

As a First Assistant Director-General (SES Band 2) in ASIO you will form part of the senior leadership team, where you will work closely with the Director-General and the Executive team to deliver outcomes and promote workplace practices consistent with the Organisation's Values and Leadership Charter.

In these roles, you will:

• lead and manage a Division,
• determine and be accountable for objectives, priorities and task allocation, and
• represent the Organisation at high-level discussions and in negotiations with key stakeholders and external organisations.

To be a strong contender for these important and challenging roles, you will excel in working in complex and challenging environments, and be an experienced leader with a substantial record of achievement. You will be forward thinking, self-motivated, resilient and adept at building relationships in a complex and fast-paced environment.

You will be able to contribute to, and communicate, the strategic direction of the Organisation. Your strong leadership credentials and ability to engender trust and respect will be complemented by exceptional judgement, a strong focus on results, the ability to solve complex issues and build organisational capability and a commitment to helping create a proactive and productive workplace culture.

As part of this selection process, a merit pool will be established and may be used to fill similar positions over the next 12 months.


To be eligible for the role, you must be:

• an Australian citizen, and
• assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a Positive Vetting security clearance.
