Role Summary

AFP appointees contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

Applications are sought for suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Senior Assessment Officer, Personnel Security Vetting.


The AFP Security Portfolio assists AFP business through the provision of a variety of administrative and security functions. This work may include:
• Performing a range of office management activities;
• Undertaking project and research work to support the Security portfolio and wider AFP business;
• Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of ongoing AFP operational activities;
• Contributing to the development and implementation of corporate policies, processes and systems which enhance the delivery of AFP operational outcomes; and
• Maintaining currency in subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities outside the formal education process.

These positions will be for offered for either ongoing and non-ongoing up to 12 months. A merit pool will be created for future vacancies.


Role Description & Responsibilities

The role is a Senior Assessment Officer whom reports to the direct supervisor.
This role entails:
• Gather, analyse, explore and investigate information relevant to the security assessment process in accordance with the Protective Security Policy Framework and AFP National Guidelines
• Prepare and conduct complex and protracted security clearance interviews and associated investigations
• Process Positive Vetting security clearances inclusive of undertaking PV interviews
• Interpret and apply knowledge of government guidelines, procedures, processes and respective regulations
• Prepare detailed interview reports, with appropriate conclusions and recommendations
• Conduct and promote security awareness briefings
• Lead small teams
• Maintaining currency in vetting methodology through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities outside the formal education process.
• Advise the Delegate of the recommendations to grant or deny a security clearance
• Planning and ensuring activities align with and facilitate AFP business requirements
• Mentor and train Assessment Officers and prospective Interviewing Officers

 

Eligibility


Essential Requirements

• NV1 security clearance or an ability to obtain one
• Certificate IV in Government (Personnel Security)
• Security clearance assessment interviewing experience
• Complex security clearance assessment interviewing
