Job Description


The Defence TAFE Employment Scheme (DTES) provides you with the opportunity to apply your TAFE learning, while building on your experiences, to contribute to nationally significant projects supporting the Australia Defence Force (ADF).

The DTES consists of on the job civilian work experience (part-time) and continuation of your TAFE studies (part-time) whilst being paid a starting salary of $49,616 p.a plus 15.4% super.

Throughout your time on the DTES, you will be supported by a dedicated team, who will assist you with learning about the Department of Defence, be available to address any questions or concerns, and meet with you regularly to discuss your personal learning and development. In addition to the reimbursement of your TAFE course fees, you will also receive up to $500 for the reimbursement of required text books and other equipment

On successful completion of the program, DTES participants are advanced in classification to an Australian Public Service 3-4 (Technical) Level classification if engaged as a technical employee, or an APS Level 3 classification if engaged as a logistics employee.

For the February 2020 DTES we are looking for TAFE students completing a minimum of a Certificate IV in the following disciplines:

• Electronics and Communications Engineering

• Electronics and Communications Engineering
• Computing and Cyber Security/Information Technology Networking
• Logistics
• Systems Engineering
• Mechatronics/Software Communications/Electrical/Electronics
• Logistics/Business Administration/Leadership and Management

• Information Technology Networking

• Logistics

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at either 'Baseline Vetting' level, 'Negative Vetting Level 1', 'Negative Vetting Level 2' or Positive Vetting

If Positive Vetting is required, prior to commencement successful applicants will be required to undergo a psychological assessment and an extensive security clearance process. Applicants requiring Positive Vetting clearance must be Australian Citizens; be able to account for their personal background for their whole life; and be able to demonstrate suitability to work in a high security intelligence environment. The DTES is open to TAFE students who have (by January 2020):

- successfully completed at least 6 months full-time study (or part-time equivalent) in a relevant discipline (computing and cyber security/engineering/technical or logistics); and
- a minimum of 6 (Logistics) or 12 (all other disciplines) months part-time study remaining in a Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree.
