Job Description

Duties

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) exists to meet the Nation’s commitment to care for our veteran and defence service community – the men and women who have served Australia in times of war and conflict as well as peacetime. This commitment extends to the families of these individuals. We do this through programs of care, compensation, commemoration and Defence support services. DVA is both a policy and service delivery agency.

In response to changed veteran needs and expectations, DVA is embarking on the largest transformation program it has undertaken for decades and will change business processes, systems, services, organisation and culture to put veterans and their families first.

As Assistant Secretary, People Services Branch, you will have overall responsibility for human resource management and strategy within the Department. The People Services Branch is responsible for delivering and implementing the full range of HR services across the Department nationally. You will need to effectively drive change within the agency and ensure that managers have access to quality professional human resource support.

To be a strong contender for this role you will be a strong leader, with strategic vision, and an ability to work in an ambiguous environment. You will have a focus on results with a flair for anticipating and providing solutions and should be able to demonstrate exceptional analytical, communication and relationship management skills. You will have experience in managing and planning a workforce strategy in a period of transformation and or significant change, and be experienced in managing key relationships, including with partners under the whole of government shared services arrangements and the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU).

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the Department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

This position requires a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Notes

A competitive salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

DVA supports the principles and practices of workplace equity and diversity.
