Duties


The Department of Home Affairs is a central policy agency, providing coordinated strategy and policy leadership for Australia's national security, federal law enforcement, criminal justice, cyber security, border, immigration, multicultural affairs, emergency management and trade related functions.

The Office of the National Counter Foreign Interference Coordinator (NCFI Coordinator) was established in April 2018 to lead Australia’s whole-of-government effort to counter foreign interference. The Office of the NCFI Coordinator is the focal point for coordinating policy and program development including national efforts to identify, assess and respond to acts of foreign interference. The Office of the NCFI Coordinator leads on engagement across various sectors of Australian society to develop initiatives to counter foreign interference (CFI).

In support of the NCFI Coordinator, the Assistant Secretary is required to be forward thinking, self-motivated, resilient and adept at building relationships in a large, complex and fast-paced environment. The Assistant Secretary will need to develop innovative solutions and contribute to setting strategic direction. In addition, the Assistant Secretary will possess the ability to engender trust and respect, complemented by sound judgement, a strong focus on achieving results and the ability to solve complex issues.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively, anticipate opportunities, manage risk, resolve complex issues and provide strategic direction and leadership. The Assistant Secretary will

• Lead policy development, implementation and evaluation
• Oversee governance and coordination functions of the Office of the NCFI Coordinator
• Develop and build an integrated evaluation and performance mechanism
• Create and actively build a strong whole-of-government network
• Lead, retain and grow a resilient and agile workforce
• Effectively manage employee performance



 

Eligibility


The successful candidate must be an Australian citizen, successfully undergo the Department’s Employment Suitability Clearance process and must establish and maintain a security clearance at a minimum level of Negative Vetting 2.
