Job Description


The Bureau of Meteorology is Australia’s national weather, climate and water agency. It is one of the few organisations that touches the lives of all Australians and all of Australia, every day. Since 1908 the Bureau has proudly provided an extraordinary array of products and services that have contributed to economic prosperity, public safety and community well-being.

Reporting directly to the CEO & Director of Meteorology, Dr Andrew Johnson, the Group Executive National Forecast Services is a member of the Bureau’s Executive Team and is accountable for the delivery of the Bureau's weather, climate, water, marine and Antarctic services.

Leading a cohort of approximately 300 staff, the Group Executive will be responsible for multi-disciplinary teams of meteorologists, climatologists, hydrologists, communications specialists, technologists, engineers and other relevant professionals that serve as a focal point for high impact weather advice to emergency managers and the general public and who support and complement the Bureau’s services for industry and Government.

The successful candidate will be focused on growing the Bureau’s impact and value for Australia by enabling the organisation to position itself strategically as an indispensable partner to the Australian public and emergency management sector. The Group Executive will provide enterprise thought-leadership on meteorological, climatological and hydrological matters. The role will include significant involvement in a transformation program to enable the Bureau to achieve its goal of contributing to zero lives lost due to climate, weather and water related events and delivering $2B of added economic and social value for Australia.

The Group Executive will be a senior professional of global standing, highly experienced in leading geographically distributed multidisciplinary teams within an operational customer centric environment. They will have a proven track record of working in partnership with customers, partners and stakeholders to understand and articulate complex business needs in order to deliver relevant and high-value products and services.
