THE ROYAL COMMISSION

The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability was established on Thursday 4 April 2019.

The Letters Patent for the Royal Commission detail the Commission’s terms of reference.

The Commissioners are required to provide an interim report by 30 October 2020, and a final report by 29 April 2022.

The Royal Commission will have a presence in Brisbane QLD, Canberra ACT and Sydney NSW. It is anticipated that hearings will occur throughout Australia.

The Temporary Employment Register is open for applicants to register their interest in employment with the Royal Commission. The Temporary Employment Register enables the department to access appropriately skilled and experienced individuals for fixed term/temporary employment opportunities.

Vacancies will be filled on a non-ongoing (temporary) basis for initial periods of up to 18 months with the possibility of extension for the duration of the Royal
Commission’s operation.

ENGAGEMENT CONDITONS

Due to the sensitive nature of some of the material that the Royal Commission will consider, applicants may be required to participate in a psychological assessment as a part of the recruitment process. Results will be considered along with outcomes of interview, reference checks and consideration of resumes to assist the selection panel in making final decisions. Successful applicants may also be required to participate in a dedicated wellbeing support program as a part of their employment.

The Royal Commission is seeking applicants from a range of disciplines who are interested in non-ongoing (temporary) employment opportunities which may arise within the life of the Royal Commission.

The positions will be located in Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra.

Positions may become available in the following disciplines:

• community engagement
• communications, marketing and media
• counselling and support
• executive assistant
• human resources
• information and communications technology
• information and knowledge management
• legal
• ministerial and parliamentary
• office administration
• project management
• Property and security
• Strategic policy research and report writing
 

Eligibility


Applicants must be Australian citizens to be eligible for employment.

The preferred applicants will be required to successfully undergo a police record check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a specified clearance level. The preferred applicants must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.

Applicants engaged into the APS may be subject to a probation period.

Applicants registering their interest for legal positions must hold a degree in law from an Australian tertiary institution or comparable overseas qualification, which, in the opinion of the Secretary or delegate, is appropriate to the duties of the office, or admission in Australia as a legal practitioner.

An APS employee must disclose, and take reasonable steps to avoid, any conflict of interest (real or apparent) in connection with APS employment. Applicants may be required to make a conflict of interest declaration prior to engagement.
