At the ATO, you’ll do work that makes a real difference to the lives of Australians and that contributes to their economic and social wellbeing.

We are seeking an influential leader in change and design to join our Enterprise Strategy and Design business line. In this role you will position the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to deliver high quality user centred design and solutions in support of ATO’s strategic priorities to 2024.

As an Assistant Commissioner you’ll be responsible for designing tailored and contemporary products and services that are informed by an understanding of the community, government and stakeholders and their needs and expectations.

You’ll be responsible for a team of approximately 70 designers across four sites utilising disciplines including service design, end to end design, user research, design facilitation, visual communication and interaction design.

Our ideal candidate
> is a strong and influential leader with extensive management experience in designing and creating solutions in a complex and challenging environment
> has significant stakeholder management experience
> is able to provide persuasive advice to resolve conflicting priorities and viewpoints
> has knowledge of human centred design and the principles and practices associated with the application of design methodologies
> demonstrates contemporary thinking and understanding of current business practice and the ability to exercise sound judgement
> relevant tertiary qualifications are desirable but not essential
> leads by example and embodies our cultural traits – you can watch a series of videos on our culture on ATO Careers to understand how these traits underpin everything we do.

These roles may be offered as full time or part time on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis in Canberra, Brisbane CBD, Melbourne CBD or Adelaide.

We offer a competitive total remuneration package (including allowances and superannuation) in the range of $230,246 to $266,374 per annum, depending on experience.

Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for a specified term
