Job Description

Duties


The Australian Bureau of Statistics has multiple Cyber Security positions in our Technology & Security Division in either the Canberra, Melbourne or Sydney offices.

The Technology & Security Division (TSD) provides information and communication technology (ICT) applications support, technology capability, information security, and develops and maintains ICT infrastructure.

The following positions are available:

- Senior Cyber Security Specialist (APS Level 6)
- Cyber Security Specialist (APS Level 5)
- Cyber Security Officer (APS Level 4)

We are seeking motivated people with skills in technology and security. The roles are suited to someone who can work well in a team environment, who has strong analytical skills, and are able to work flexibly to agreed priorities and deadlines.

For these roles we are seeking people experienced in security aspects of the design, implementation and maintenance of technology and security solutions including:

• Application security - including secure coding, DevSecOps practices, security testing applications, and penetration testing.
• Infrastructure security - including server and desktop operating system security, and endpoint security products.
• Network security - including switching, routing, firewalls, web application firewalls, load balancers, and proxies.
• Identity and access management (IAM) – including user account management, access management, and auditing.
• Operational security – including monitoring systems, security information and event management.
• Cloud security - including AWS and Azure security controls.

These positions may involve tasks such as:

• assessment of risks in new platforms and applications
• coordinating IT access systems for user account and access management
• providing advice and guidance on ICT security to ABS staff
• developing monitoring, alerting and dashboards within the SIEM platform
• responding to security incidents
• identification and mitigation of system vulnerabilities
• producing and publishing security education and awareness
• supporting IT Security and Security Operations executive level staff to run and operate the section.

Ideally, candidates will have experience with some of the following security tools:

• Splunk (Security Information & Event Management – SIEM)
• Dtex (user behaviour analytics)
• ObserveIT (user behaviour analytics)
• Rapid7 Nexpose (vulnerability management)
• Checkmarx (static application code scanning)
• SonarQube (static application code scanning)
• IBM AppScan (application security testing)
• PortSwigger Burp Suite (web application security testing)
• Varonis (data access monitoring)
• McAfee Endpoint Protection (anti-virus and endpoint security)
• McAfee SkyHigh (cloud access security broker)

These positions offer flexible working arrangements (in terms of hours and/or doing some work from home).

 

Eligibility


Australian citizenship is a requirement for these position.

The successful applicants must currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) level security clearance.
