Job Description

We seek senior executives (Program Managers) who are ready to help lead the ABS into the future. We may use this process to fill positions and/or rotate our current team across Economic Statistics, Social Statistics, Census and Data Integration, and Corporate and Transformation programs, and to create a merit pool for future ABS SES Band 1 vacancies.

Program Managers report to a General Manager. It is probable that a number of your teams will be geographically spread as we have 10 offices across Australia, one in each capital city as well as Geelong and Dandenong.

As a Program Manager you will provide overall leadership of your Branch, including:

• delivering a range of work program priorities in support of achieving ABS’ strategic directions and producing statistical and data outputs or corporate enabling programs
• nurturing internal and external stakeholder partnerships and engagement
• actively managing risks
• people management, capability building and talent management
• budget management and planning, including improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Branch.

As a member of the ABS Senior Executive Service and Leadership team, you will contribute towards ABS strategic priorities and management of the ABS by:

• actively demonstrating and promoting the behaviours required for ABS transformation (collaborative, responsive, collegiate, respectful, innovative, adaptable, resilient)

• supporting empowerment and simplified and streamlined governance that enables transparent and responsive decision making and flexible resource allocation

• contributing to and promoting ABS-wide initiatives beyond your specific Branch work program e.g. diversity, ongoing innovation

• providing frank and fearless advice and views as part of the leadership team e.g. in relevant Governance and senior leadership committees.

It is a general expectation that employees of the Australian Public Service (APS) are Australian citizens or are intending to apply for citizenship. In exceptional cases the Australian Statistician can waive this requirement.

Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and those with disability are strongly encouraged to apply as we work towards being representative of Australian society.

RecruitAbility applies to this vacancy. Under the RecruitAbility scheme you will be invited to participate in further assessment activity for the vacancy if you choose to apply under the scheme; declare you have a disability; and meet the minimum requirements for the job. For more information see:
