Job Description

Duties


The National Manager Aviation Operations is a new role created to lead aviation forecasting teams that comprise more than 100 specialist operational meteorologists. A transformation programme is underway to recruit these specialists from around Australia to establish Aviation Forecast Centres located in Melbourne and Brisbane, with additional specialist teams also located in Canberra and Sydney. The successful candidate will play a leading role in commissioning the new facilities and take responsibility for fostering high-performing teams within them.

The National Manager will be accountable for ensuring the effective delivery of aviation meteorological services, both those required by ICAO standards and recommended practices as well as a range of enhanced and extended services. The goal is for these services to contribute to achieving efficient, safe and economical aviation operations for airlines, aviators and the travelling public within the Australian Flight Information Regions and the Asia-Pacific Region.

Reporting to the General Manager for Aviation, Land and Maritime Transport, the successful applicant will direct aviation operations managers in Melbourne and Brisbane and work alongside the National Manager for Aviation Services. The latter is accountable for leading industry and international engagement to maintain a deep understanding of the Aviation Sector. They are responsible for delivering a programme of science and service enhancements that, as National Manager for Aviation Operations, you will test and accept to increase the impact and value of the Bureau's aviation offering.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced and motivated professional, with strong credibility both in terms of sectoral knowledge and technical skills, in a role that is central to the delivery of the Bureau’s Strategy.

 

Eligibility


A degree or diploma of an Australian institution, or a comparable overseas qualification which is appropriate to the duties; OR other comparable qualifications, which are appropriate to the duties.

Successful applicants may be required to obtain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance

This position is open to international applicants and whilst Australian citizenship is not a mandatory requirement, non-Australian citizens will only be considered if there are not suitable Australian candidates. Any offer of engagement will require the Bureau of Meteorology and the applicant to meet visa and work requirements determined by the Australian Border Force under the Department of Home Affairs.
