Job Description


As the Manager International Engagement, you will be a senior leader within AMSA’s Standards division. You will be responsible for the high level coordination of AMSA’s international engagement activities, as well as management of AMSA’s approach to technical cooperation. You will represent AMSA and Australia at international and national forums, and will lead the coordination of the Australian Government’s position on critical matters at the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

This key position will work closely with stakeholders internationally, nationally and within AMSA to influence international standards for vessels and seafarers, as well as seafarer welfare and living and working conditions. The role will lead a dedicated team of professionals, working on a diverse range of issues in support of AMSA’s strategic goals. The immediate year ahead would see you lead on Australia’s re-election to the IMO Council, continue our efforts for IMO reform and manage significant technical cooperation activities with Indonesia.


To be successful in this position, you will have relevant tertiary qualifications coupled with high level experience in international engagement. You will have a strong understanding of international organisations, including the United Nations system. You will have demonstrated experience in capacity building and a track record successfully seeking external funding.

You will be highly effective in influencing others, working collaboratively to solve problems and progress critical issues. You will have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and network effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.

You will be a strong leader, with experience driving change and coaching and developing high performing teams.
