Job Description


ASIS is Australia’s overseas secret intelligence collection agency. Its mission is to protect and promote Australia’s vital interests through the provision of intelligence services as directed by the Government. Its work involves collecting intelligence relating to national security, international relations and economic issues. It also contributes to Australia’s coordinated national effort against terrorism, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and trans-national issues such as people smuggling.

As ASIS’s Assistant Director-General, People and Organisation you will be responsible for leading the Branch to deliver on the full range of human resource services, both strategic and operational for the Service. You will provide the Senior Executive Team with strategic human resource management advice in order to build the workforce to improve business productivity and achieve the outcomes of ASIS’s Strategic Plan.

Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies for workforce planning and ensuring that organisational systems, processes, procedures and policies are fit for purpose.

To be a strong candidate for this role you will have a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively, anticipate opportunities, manage risk, resolve complex issues and provide strategic direction and leadership. You will also have a demonstrated ability to operate in accordance with, and actively promote, ASIS’s values and ethical standards.
