Job Description

Duties

• CURRENT AND ARISING VACANCIES (SWORN AND PROFESSIONAL)
• HIGH PROFILE NATIONAL AGENCY
• ATTRACTIVE SENIOR EXECUTIVE REMUNERATION & CONDITIONS PACKAGE

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is seeking dynamic, motivated and experienced individuals to join its Senior Executive team.

Reporting directly to a National Manager, the successful candidates will be expected to lead a Branch responsible for an Operational, National Security, Operations Support or a Corporate function.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is Australia’s national policing agency. The organisation enforces Commonwealth criminal law and protects Commonwealth interests from crime and security threats. AFP challenges include counter terrorism, human trafficking, cyber-crime, peace keeping operations, transnational crime and protection of national assets. The organisation is Australia’s international law enforcement and policing representative with posts in more than 30 countries.

This AFP Headquarters is based in Canberra, ACT. The AFP will consider applications from candidates who reside outside the Canberra region. Any decision with respect to location will be subject to agreement with the Commissioner.

The AFP business model explicitly links capability and capacity with the conduct of operations in order to maximise the use of technology, specialisation of resources and identify interdependencies. To ensure the AFP maintains its ability to lead and respond to ongoing changes in the operational and criminal environment, leadership skills across a diverse range of areas are required.

Eligibility

To be a contender for these positions, you will need outstanding values-based leadership, communication, networking and negotiation abilities. For sworn positions (Commander), leadership experience in a relevant policing function is essential as well as the requirement to exercise policing powers. Professional positions do not require the exercising of policing powers. Relevant tertiary qualifications will be favourably regarded for all positions.

All SES roles in the AFP involve:
• managing and implementing change;
• developing and maintaining co-operative working relationships with senior internal and
external stakeholders;
• nurturing a wide range of internal and external contacts, networks and strategic alliances with other
agencies; and
• exercising delegations in accordance with legislation.

Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a minimum security clearance at Top Secret (NV2) level.
