Job Description

Duties

We are seeking tax technical experts to join our Public Groups and International business line to lead the ATO’s responses to the most important tax issues facing large and multi-national companies.

As an assistant commissioner, you’ll identify strategic tax issues in a particular area or industry (both risks and opportunities for providing additional certainty) and lead the development and implementation of strategies to address those issues. You’ll provide leadership, internally and externally, on new tax developments, including leading external consultation on new measures.

You’ll provide input into law reform on relevant issues via engagement with Treasury and the Board of Taxation through the provision of expert, evidence-based advice.

In addition, you’ll support the ATO’s external communication of its position on key industry or risk areas, including to the Senate and other scrutineers.

Our ideal candidate
> has significant experience developing and implementing tax technical strategies to address tax issues and risks across a range of areas or industries
> excels when working in complex and challenging environments, makes sound judgments and finds innovative solutions
> has deep understanding of a range of external factors that affect the ATO, including knowledge of contemporary and emerging cross-jurisdictional and international issues
> is service-focused, with extensive experience leading change and providing direction in complex environments
> creates and actively builds sustainable relationships and work collaboratively with senior stakeholders whist communicating with influence on technical and sensitive issues
> leads by example and embodies our cultural traits

We offer rewarding careers for professionals with access to learning and development and a collaborative and supportive culture.
