Job Description

Duties


The Department of Home Affairs is a central policy agency, providing coordinated strategy and policy leadership for Australia's national and transport security, federal law enforcement, criminal justice, cyber security, border, immigration, multicultural affairs, emergency management and trade related functions.

The Department is seeking to fill a number of roles within the Intelligence and Capability Group:

• Assistant Secretary Technology Operations and Support
• Assistant Secretary Corporate & Case Systems
• Assistant Secretary Traveller, Cargo and Trade Systems
• Assistant Secretary Strategy, Architecture and Innovation
• Assistant Secretary Data Services
• Assistant Secretary AusCheck

These roles are expected vacancies at the Assistant Secretary level for motivated leaders who will be responsible for providing high level advice/expertise in a range of information technology areas. Successful candidates are expected to have experience in at least one of the following:

• Service delivery that supports approximately 16,000 end users. Leading a team that is responsible for providing the software, hardware and helpdesk functions that the Department requires to perform its business.

• Maintaining the health of the Department’s corporate systems while delivering new capability for corporate and operational lines of business. Core corporate systems include HR and Finance (SAP), Intranet and Public-Facing Web Applications, Records Management (TRIM) and Case/Operational Incident Management.

• The development of technology strategy products and architecture for the Department to meet its current and future needs.

• The operation of a range of Traveller, Trade and Cargo Systems supporting border operations and revenue collection for the Department of Home Affairs and the Australian Border Force.

• The development and provision of data products and services that are used across the Department of Home Affairs and the Australian Border Force to better inform analysis and decision-making.

• The management of AusCheck background checking services for transport security, major events and security sensitive biological substances; and the implementation of a national domestic violence order scheme.

To be successful as an Assistant Secretary in the Intelligence and Capability Group you will be a skilful communicator, negotiator and leader with personal presence and demonstrated experience in driving transformational change, working with your peers and the Executive. You will be responsible for developing and supporting information technology solutions that enable the Department’s business.


 

Eligibility


The successful candidates must be an Australian citizen, successfully undergo the Department's Employment Suitability Clearance process and must establish and maintain a security clearance at a minimum level of Negative Vetting 2.
