Duties


The role:
We currently have several Senior Executive Band 1 vacancies. We are seeking talented senior leaders to join our executive leadership team. You will play a significant role in contributing to the overall strategic direction of the Department, including through providing quality policy advice, delivering effective program design and management, providing corporate services and the implementation of the agency’s corporate priorities whilst focussing on people, culture and performance. In these roles, you will lead and manage a Branch; determine and be accountable for objectives, priorities and task allocation; and represent the department at high-level discussions and negotiations with key stakeholders.

The qualities we are seeking:
To be a strong contender for the positions you will need to possess a proven ability for stakeholder engagement that will enable you to effectively communicate with the community, government officials, and political leaders. You need to be forward thinking, self-motivated, resilient and adept at building relationships in a complex environment while promoting workplace practices consistent with Departmental policy and a commitment to the Australian Public Service (APS) Values.

The type of leaders we look for:
As a leader you will need the ability to inspire others, engender trust and respect, and build organisational capability with a strong commitment to shaping a proactive and productive workplace culture. Your ability to engage in the development and implementation of environmental policy and programmes will be critical to your effectiveness in the Department.

 

Eligibility


To be eligible for any position in the Department you must be an Australian Citizen unless otherwise agreed in writing by the delegate. Please note that you may be asked to provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.

If a security clearance is required the successful applicant must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance level for the duration of their employment in the position.

One of these positions is an ‘Identified’ position which signifies that the role has a strong involvement in issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The successful applicant must have an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People. People of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent are strongly encouraged to apply.
