Job Description

Duties


The Department of Home Affairs, which was establshed in December 2017, is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic and national security arrangements, law enforcement, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, emergency management, the protection of our sovereignty and the integrity of our border, and the resilience of our national infrastructure. The Department of Home Affairs also delivers the full spectrum of visa and citizenship services previously undertaken by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, including strengthening the cohesiveness of Australian society through our migration program.

The Department is seeking to fill the role of Assistant Secretary Integrity and Professional Standards.

The Assistant Secretary Integrity and Professional Standards is responsible for:

- Overseeing the Department’s compliance with the Professional Standard Framework, development and implementation of integrity policies, management of integrity related operations, provision of integrity advice and training.
- Managing and reporting on the Department’s compliance with the requirements Commonwealth Fraud Control Framework.
- Managing integrity investigations and working closely with internal stakeholders including the Department and Australian Border Force Executive.
- Promoting a strong, professional and unified approach to the delivery of Integrity and Professonal Standard’s functions and services.
- Building, promoting and managing relationships and communications associated with integrity matters with external stakeholders including the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity.
- Managing change and promoting continuous improvement in the Department’s Professional Standards Framework.
- Providing status reports including immediate advice to the Executive regarding issues that may increase the integrity risk to the Department.

To be a strong contender for this important appointment, you will need to be an experienced leader and manager, ideally, in law enforcement agencies. Your well-honed stakeholder management skills will be complemented by an impressive strategic perspective, senior level policy advisory and leadership skills, and a personal style that engenders trust and respect. Qualifications and experience in an appropriate profession relating to the role are desirable.


 

Eligibility


The successful candidate must be an Australian citizen, successfully undergo the Department’s Employment Suitability Clearance process and must establish and maintain a security clearance at a minimum level of Negative Vetting 2.
