Job Description


The Office of Innovation and Science Australia (OISA) is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) - OISA. The COO - OISA will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The office was established to assist the Australian Government in ensuring that Australia reaches its innovation potential and contributes to the wellbeing and prosperity of all Australians into the future. The Innovation Science Australia (ISA) Board is an independent statutory board that provides strategic whole-of-government advice on innovation, science and research matters.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a passion for innovation, science and research, and experience working at senior levels in a complex stakeholder environment. You will provide leadership of projects developing reports and advice for the ISA Board, along with day to day management of the OISA team. You will build and maintain key stakeholder relationships in the innovation, science and research system (particularly across other APS agencies) and represent the CEO at meetings and events as required.

The successful candidate will have excellent people management skills and experience:

• working in both public and private sector environments – this role requires extensive engagement across both domains
• with the development and communication of strategic advice, particularly in the policy domain
• managing teams and maintaining high levels of operational effectiveness in complex and fast-paced environments
• engaging with senior stakeholders in a wide range of organisations.

Tertiary qualifications relevant to the responsibilities of this area and/or experience in a senior leadership role is desirable.
