Job Description


The department is seeking an experienced management accountant to join the Financial Management Branch within the External Budgets team. This dynamic role plays a pivotal part in the delivery of the department’s Portfolio Budget Statements and Portfolio Additional Estimates Statements.

Key responsibilities include:

• Develop and implement plans for the preparation of the department’s financial data for inclusion into the Portfolio Budget Statements and Portfolio Additional Estimates, including updates to budgeted financial statements.
• Manage the process for the department’s financial data for inclusion into the Portfolio Budget Statements and Portfolio Additional Estimates and other updates for the department as advised by the Department of Finance.
• Coordination of Estimates Memorandum requests for the department and Portfolio entities as required.
• Management and maintenance of Budget data in SAP/GEUS/CBMS.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on matters relating to external budgets.
• Staff management.

The successful applicant:
• finds workable solutions to problems, seeking advice from supervisor on the best course of action
• has sound knowledge of the Australian Government’s budget processes, in particular the Budget Process Operational Rules and the timing of the budget cycle
• exercises initiative and judgement, has the ability to work calmly under pressure, prioritise work and meet tight deadlines, and
• has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Relevant qualifications such as a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) are desirable but not essential.

• Applicants must be Australian citizens to be eligible for employment at the Attorney-General’s Department.
• The preferred applicant will be required to successfully undergo a police record check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a specified clearance level. The preferred applicant must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.
• Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a Probationary period.



A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created from this process, and will be active for 12 months after the date of this gazettal.
