Job Description


The Administrative Appeals Tribunal has a great opportunity for you to become an integral member of our Perth Registry team. We need experienced, energetic people who have the drive and ability to work under general direction dealing with a variety of changing priorities and differing situations.

We currently have a number of positions available, which may be filled on a permanent (ongoing) or temporary (non-ongoing) basis. An order of merit established through this selection process may be used to fill future vacancies of an identical nature.

You will self-manage a high volume caseload in accordance with our service and performance standards and work in a team committed to delivering excellent levels of service. Your typical day will include processing applications, facilitating the listing and conduct of conferences and hearings, responding to counter, telephone and electronic enquiries, and providing information to a large and diverse client base.

As a client service professional you will possess excellent listening skills and be able to identify issues and problem solve, and you will have the tenacity to follow things through to an optimum conclusion.

To be successful in this role you will be professional, organised, diligent and able to work independently. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills, be proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite and have the ability to quickly familiarise yourself with our customised databases. You will be a team player and engage with your colleagues to create a vibrant, committed and collaborative environment. You will have the ability to learn on the fly and the willingness and energy to pitch in and support the team to achieve results.

The AAT generally requires Australian citizenship as a condition of engagement.

All employees who are engaged for a period of over six months are required to undertake an Australian Federal Police Check. Ongoing employees are required to undertake a health assessment.

Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for a specified term

We currently have a number of ongoing positions available. An order of merit established through this selection process may be used to fill this or future vacancies on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis. Non-going opportunities will be offered for a specified term of up to 12 months with a possibility of extension.

About Administrative Appeals Tribunal 

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) has offices located in all states of Australia and the Australian Capital Territory and provides independent review of a wide range of administrative decisions made by the Australian Government, some non-government bodies and the Norfolk Island Government.

On 1 July 2015 the Migration Review Tribunal, Refugee Review Tribunal and Social Security Appeals Tribunal were merged with the AAT. The amalgamated AAT comprises a number of Divisions: Social Services and Child Support, Migration and Refugee, and General and Other.
