Duties


The Department designs and implements Australian Government policy and programs to protect and conserve the environment, water and heritage, promote climate action, and provide adequate, reliable and affordable energy. Over a 16 month period, as a graduate you will:
• Work on the development and implementation of new policies and programs which will have an impact nationwide or internationally.
• Undertake four work rotations and experience the diversity of the Department’s work, potential opportunities include working with the Australian Antarctic Division in Tasmania, Kakadu National Park or the Science Division in Darwin.
• Complete a comprehensive learning and development program, including ongoing individual development and career progression.
• Access to a network of people including a dedicated graduate team and senior executive mentors who will provide guidance and support.
• Undertake work that challenges and provides you with opportunities to draw on and develop your skills.
• Enjoy flexible work arrangements and excellent work conditions that promote work/life balance.
• Receive relocation assistance if moving from interstate.
• Receive a competitive remuneration package with salary/level advancement during, and on successful completion of the program.

The Environment and Energy Graduate Program combines the Indigenous, GradAbility, Internal and general streams to create one diverse and supportive cohort.

We offer a competitive program with graduates engaged as full-time employees commencing at the APS3 level ($65,363 per annum plus superannuation) and progressing to the APS4 level ($65,877 per annum plus superannuation) part way through the program. On successful completion of the program, graduates will advance to the APS5 level ($71,862 per annum plus superannuation). In addition to the competitive remuneration package, graduates will obtain a formal qualification through our formal learning and development program.

 

Eligibility


To be eligible to apply for the program, graduates must meet the following criteria:
• Be an Australian Citizen, or will be granted Australian citizenship before January 2019.
• Have completed at least a three-year degree by 31 December 2018 or have completed a degree in the last five years (January 2014 onwards).
• Have the ability to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance.
• Be willing to relocate to Canberra, ACT.
