Job Description


As a Senior Executive in the department, you will provide high-level and strategic advice to Government, set direction and drive performance to achieve outcomes in a multi-disciplined, complex and challenging environment. It is essential that you have a sound appreciation of contemporary leadership principles and practices. You will need to have an active desire to adopt these in the workplace in a way that establishes strong role models for others in the department.

We are seeking to fill a number of National Manager vacancies across the department. We are looking for people who have experience in policy, programme management, corporate, service delivery and project management. A merit pool will be established and may be used to fill other roles as they become available within the following 12 month period.

To be a strong contender for these roles, we are seeking candidates who:

• can show evidence of their ability to inspire and lead change, work collaboratively and people development skills
• has a proven record of delivering high quality outcomes
• has extensive experience in the provision of the high level, evidence-based advice
• has the ability to engender respect and trust
• demonstrate an appreciation of the challenges of working in a large, geographically dispersed and complex organisation
• display excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgement and stakeholder engagement skills

While the location of the roles is Canberra, consideration may be given to high quality candidates who reside in other locations.
