Job Description

Duties


Investigators within the Enforcement Division respond to complaints and enquiries, undertake research and investigate possible contraventions of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.

As an Investigator, your work will involve conducting interviews with complainants and others, as well as participating in the conduct of court proceedings. You will undertake research into specific industry sectors to assess competitive or consumer welfare effects of particular conduct, and liaise with industry, State and Commonwealth agencies and consumer groups.

Lower Level (APS4)
Under general guidance from your supervisor:
1. Assist in the investigation, research, analysis and evaluation of possible contraventions of the Competition and Consumer Act.
2. Assist with the preparation of advice to the Commission about matters requiring further action and recommended means of resolution (administrative, or by Court action).
3. Confer with and instruct lawyers and the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to less complex matters under investigation and subject to proceedings. Attend Court to give evidence.
4. Undertake research into specific industry sectors to assess competitive and consumer welfare effects of particular conduct and/or proposals for change.
5. Liaise with industry, government agencies, business, consumers and community groups, in relation to the Competition and Consumer Act and the Commission’s functions; assist with delivery of compliance education programs, advice and presentations to these groups.
6. Respond to less complex complaints and inquiries.
7. Prepare reports and correspondence.

Upper Level (APS5)

Under broad direction from your supervisor:
1. Investigate, research, analyse and evaluate possible contraventions of the Competition and Consumer Act of a more complex and sensitive nature.
2. Prepare advice to the Commission about matters requiring further action and recommended means of resolution.
3. Confer with and instruct lawyers and the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to matters under investigation and subject to proceedings. Attend Court to give evidence.
4. Undertake more complex research into specific industry sectors to assess competitive and consumer welfare effects of particular conduct and/or proposals for change.
5. Liaise with industry, government agencies and consumer groups in the State/Territory in which the position is located, in relation to the Competition and Consumer Act and the Commission’s functions; address these groups as required.
6. Respond to complex complaints and inquiries.
7. Prepare reports and correspondence.
