Duties


The Federal Court of Australia, in consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department, is seeking a suitably qualified person to assist with the establishment of a new initiative in the family law system. The Government is proposing to trial a less-adversarial forum for resolving parenting disputes commencing in Parramatta in mid-2018 and later at another site. This new forum —Parenting Management Hearings—will assist self represented parties to resolve their family law parenting disputes within a more inquisitorial model of dispute resolution, utilising a multi disciplinary panel of experts, and drawing on the assistance of family support services.

The successful candidate will, in particular, assist with the development and documentation of the practice, procedures and systems for use in and to support that forum.

Key Duties:
• Draft high quality documents and informational publications relating to the procedures and operation of the new forum that will support its strategic direction and purpose of facilitating the resolution of family law parenting disputes in a way that is less adversarial, fair, economical, prompt and in the child’s best interests.
• Oversee the development of information systems to support the work of the new forum.
• Assist with other practical matters relating to the set-up of the new forum.
 

Eligibility


Competencies and Attributes:
The ideal candidate will be legally qualified, with at least 5 years’ relevant post-admission experience. Extensive experience in family law practice, in particular parenting matters, and experience in dealing with matters involving family violence, is essential. Experience in the development and documentation of the practice, procedures and systems for use in and to support, a court or tribunal, including experience in drafting high quality documents and information publications relating to the procedures and operation of a court or tribunal, will be well regarded. A high level of initiative and a proven ability to work autonomously is crucial, along with strong negotiation skills and a track record of effective stakeholder engagement.

Employment with the Court is subject to the terms and conditions in the Public Service Act 1999, and the following conditions:
1. Australian citizenship – the successful applicant must hold Australian citizenship;
2. National Police Check – the successful applicant must satisfy a Police Records Check, and may also be required to complete security clearances during the course of their employment;
3. Health clearance – the successful applicant will be required to complete a health declaration and may be required to attend a medical assessment to confirm their fitness for duty.

Interested candidates who have received a redundancy benefit from an APS agency are welcome to apply, but note that they cannot be engaged until their redundancy benefit period has expired.
