Job Description

Duties


The Department of Home Affairs, which was established in December 2017, brings together Australia’s federal law enforcement, national and transport security, criminal justice, emergency management, multicultural affairs and immigration and border-related functions and agencies, working together to keep Australia safe.

As a key member of the Department’s Health Services and Policy Division (HSPD), you will lead and manage the Organisational Wellbeing Branch (formerly titled Assistant Secretary, Health Strategy and Planning Branch) which has responsibility for policy development and program management relating to contracts and other initiatives that deliver a robust health and wellbeing capability for the Australian Border Force and the Department of Home Affairs. You will work closely with the head of HSPD and the head of People Division to ensure a seamless service offering, linking organisational wellbeing strategies to work health and safety initiatives to reduce the risk of physical and psychological injury. You will also lead engagement with senior internal and external stakeholders, including those in the Australian Border Force and other agencies within the Department of Home Affairs portfolio, develop a quality assurance approach to the management of contracts and services, and drive innovation and excellence in organisational wellbeing strategies.

 

Eligibility


To be a strong contender for this important appointment, you will need to be an experienced leader and manager in organisational wellbeing, with a good understanding of work health and safety issues in the public sector and, ideally, in law enforcement agencies. Your well-honed stakeholder management skills will be complemented by an impressive strategic perspective, senior level policy advisory and leadership skills, and a personal style that engenders trust and respect. Qualifications and experience in an appropriate profession such as allied health, health administration, health consulting or work health and safety are essential.
The successful candidate must be an Australian citizen, successfully undergo the Department’s Employment Suitability Clearance process and must establish and maintain a security clearance at a minimum level of Negative Vetting 2.
