Job Description


ASIS is Australia’s overseas secret intelligence collection agency. Its mission is to protect and promote Australia’s vital interests through the provision of foreign intelligence services as directed by the Government. Its work can involve collecting intelligence relating to national security, international relations and economic issues. It also contributes to Australia’s coordinated national efforts against terrorism, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and trans-national issues such as people smuggling.

The Deputy Director-General, Capability and Corporate Management is responsible for the Service’s Corporate Management Division and the Innovation and Enabling Capability Division. The Deputy Director-General, Capability and Corporate Management provides advice to the Director General and the Minister and reports directly to the Director-General.

The Deputy Director-General, Capability and Corporate Management is a high level and high profile role providing executive leadership with responsibility for developing and maintaining the capabilities of the organisation, managing organisational risks and the long-term financial sustainability to ensure the organisation can proactively respond to the challenging and continually changing global demands.

The Deputy Director-General, Capability and Corporate Management determines key capability and corporate policy directions for the organisation and is responsible for ensuring appropriate governance arrangements are in place for timely executive and strategic decision making.

The Deputy Director-General, Capability and Corporate Management is responsible for ensuring the organisation maintains effective working relationships with Ministers and the broader National Intelligence Community (NIC), and that it develops key strategic national and international agency relationships.

The successful applicant will have demonstrated ability to deliver organisational outcomes against complex work programs, build and maintain high level strategic relationships, manage operational risk and provide outstanding strategic direction and leadership. The successful applicant will also have the demonstrated ability to operate in accordance with, and actively promote, ASIS’s values and ethical standards.

The position is Canberra based, with conditions of service similar to those in the Australian Public Service, including superannuation. (The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a high level security clearance and Australian citizenship.)
