Job Description


The Transition Support program is a major initiative of AHL’s funding agreement with the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet to operate the Kardu Darrikardu Numida Student Hostel in Wadeye.

This new program supports and links with the Northern Territory Government’s Transition Support Unit, which is responsible for the provision of support services for remote Indigenous students and their families with educational options and transition to secondary school pathways. Transition Support Teams operate across the Territory to support students and parents with the transition to secondary schooling in urban and regional schools.

The Transition Support Manager will provide leadership and guidance to achieve optimal educational outcomes and support for students, their parents and school communities in the transition to secondary boarding schools and residential facilities away from the Wadeye community.

The successful candidate will be accountable for the implementation of program support to meet the needs of remote students preparing for transition to secondary schools within the Territory, as well as interstate. Desirable are relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in teaching Indigenous secondary students.

Role description:

1. Provide students, families and community stakeholders with information relative to pathway planning for school programs and entrance requirements/boarding school requirements/applications/Abstudy
2. Clarify and communicate specific service provision requirements of students transitioning to boarding
3. Prepare, maintain and manage Transition Plans based on secondary school destination
4. Provide regular feedback to the school on the progress and status of Transition Planning with all students
5. Maintain professionalism in relation to the APS Values and Code of Conduct
6. Maintain appropriate student records
7. Collaborate with local and interstate stakeholders
8. Refer to and collaborate on solutions when a student disengages.

Working with Children Clearance (or equivalent)
Satisfactory National Criminal History Check
Satisfactory Medical Assessment
Satisfactorily complete a Probation period.
