Duties


AHL is currently recruiting enthusiastic candidates for Head of Boarding – a challenging role where you can make a difference.

This position will require shift work as the hostel is operational on the 24/7 basis. To be successful in this challenging role you will need to be hard working, have boundless energy and show empathy, patience and respect for the people you work with (young people, staff and management). You will provide leadership in day-to-day management and support the effective and efficient running of the hostel. The Head of Boarding will also ensure delivery of outcomes against the following student support, engagement and educational outcome elements of the operating model:
- Community Engagement - with community members and families of potential students in Wadeye and surrounding communities, open days, school and community interagency meetings.
- Student Support Services – through a holistic pastoral care program designed to manage student routines and develop a variety of life skills, including: culturally appropriate after school hours recreation program, homework program focusing on basic literacy, sporting activities, computer skills, living skills, excursions and bush camps.
- Child health checks – general medical, dental and hearing tests will be arranged through the Wadeye health clinic.
- School attendance - AHL’s students in Wadeye consistently achieve a higher than community average school attendance rate, and efforts will continue to ensure this successful outcome is maintained.
 

Eligibility


Australian citizenship
Working with Children Clearance (or equivalent)
Satisfactory National Criminal History Check
Satisfactory Medical Assessment
Satisfactorily complete a Probation period.

All AHL facilities are non-smoking and zero tolerance of alcohol – this includes staff accommodation.
