Duties


The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

The AEC is seeking to appoint an Assistant Commissioner to lead the Elections Branch which includes the following functions: Election Design; Election Policy & Procedure; Election Delivery Projects; Election Planning and Readiness & Operations. The Branch is responsible for delivering robust Election capabilities that allow the agency to deliver high-integrity elections, and as such, other election related functions may become a responsibility of this Branch.

To be a strong contender for this position you must be able to operate effectively in a dynamic and quickly changing environment, have strong leadership skills, including the ability to inspire confidence, and exercise astute judgement. A strong results orientation is important as is resilience and a positive approach to issues resolution.

The Assistant Commissioner, Elections is responsible for the delivery of strategic and operational advice and services in respect to key branch functions including election planning, policy and operations across the AEC. Your excellent representational and relationship management skills allows you to engage effectively with operational areas in the AEC and with important external stakeholders. You will also be able to demonstrate a successful track record of leading large teams and delivering outstanding results particularly involving complex change agendas.

The Assistant Commissioner, Elections is part of the AEC’s Senior Executive team and plays an active role in the overall leadership and management of the AEC.
