Job Description


The Position:
We are seeking an experienced professional to work as an Assistant Security Advisor in our Security and Fraud Control team. In this role, you will provide contemporary security risk management advice through a range of tasks in the protective security field in respect to the overall security of CSIRO.

As the Assistant Security Advisor, you will play a key role to actively review, update and implement the CSIRO Security Framework in support of the CSIRO Strategy 2020, and CSIRO Global initiative.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking intelligence and security related assessments to provide an informed view of the organisational security risk environment, including the management and prioritisation of a program of protective security risk assessments for all CSIRO sites/facilities.
- Analysing and providing professional advice on protective security issues relating to CSIRO staff and facilities, including CSIRO’s chemical, radiation, biological and nuclear assets.
- Developing and coordinating Protective Security Awareness, Education and Training Programs for CSIRO.
- Representing CSIRO on Commonwealth, State or local inter agency protective security matters.
- Undertaking security investigations involving CSIRO controlled facilities, staff, and contractors and liaise with the Australian Federal Police and Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecution DPP as required.

Applicants with a qualification or experience in Government investigation will be highly regarded.


To be successful you will need:
- A tertiary qualification in protective security or security risk management, &/or the ability to demonstrate extensive work related experience in such fields.
- Be an Australian citizenship with a checkable background, and satisfy the requirements to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Positive Vetting security clearance. (or currently hold one)
- The willingness and ability to travel interstate and internationally at various periods.
- Experience in a security advisory role and/or undertaking security assessments (threat, vulnerability, risk) with the ability to relate this to organisational contexts.
- The ability to provide operational security advice to management, clients and stakeholders on all aspects of protective security.
- Experience with promoting best practice within an Organisation through development, coordination and communication of training or other mechanisms.
