Job Description


The Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development is at the forefront of the Australian Government’s efforts to secure Australia’s economic future and improve living standards. We do this through building stronger communities, major infrastructure projects, infrastructure planning, strategic investment in transport infrastructure, transport system reform, regulation of transport safety and security, and strategic development of policies and programs. We also assist Australia’s regions and communities to strengthen their economic base and provide the non-self-governing territories with community services and capital investment.

We are currently seeking to fill the role of General Manager, People and Performance Branch. As the General Manager, People and Performance Branch you will be accountable for leading a highly motivated group of human resources professionals to enable the department to deliver on its purpose through modern and innovative people strategies. The People and Performance Branch plays a key role in building and sustaining a workplace culture of inclusivity, integrity and professionalism, reflective of a modern and responsive public service.

You will be focused on driving outcomes that better meet the needs and expectations of the department, including providing a broad range of contemporary, practical and innovative human resource services and solutions to ensure our people are equipped to meet immediate and emerging challenges.

To be a strong contender for this critical role you will be an experienced and confident strategic HR practitioner able to effectively influence and support the people agenda for the department. Your leadership and change management skills will be highly developed and you will have extensive experience in managing cultural reform. Your ability to engage with a broad range of stakeholders will see you build positive relationships that better enable the People and Performance Branch to manage risk and negotiate successful outcomes across the department and broader-APS.

As the General Manager, People and Performance Branch you will be responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction and guidance to your team of approximately 36 staff, with a budget of approximately $7 million.

Qualifications and/or extensive experience in strategic human resources is highly desirable.
