Temporary Employment Register

Operation Free Range is a research project on mobility in the APS. We want to understand how you navigate the current system, where you encounter problems and, most importantly, how you feel when interacting with different mobility mechanisms.

The pilot will run for 12 months and be evaluated through survey responses. At the end, we anticipate having enough data to make an educated call about how the APS can best reap the rewards from interagency mobility.

But the Australian Public Service Commission is no soloist; we’ve joined teams with six other APS agencies to work through this project.

The Operation Free Range temporary employment register is open to all ongoing APS employees within the following agencies:

• Australian Bureau of Statistics
• Australian Communications and Media Authority
• Australian Public Service Commission
• Department of Defence
• Department of Finance
• Department of Health
• Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The register allows the above agencies to access suitable candidates for non-ongoing and casual placements at short notice.

Our online application form will ask you to express an interest in roles as well as select what work areas you have experience in. Positions may be full-time, part-time or casual depending on business needs and requirements.

To be eligible for this position you must be employed as an ongoing APS employee within one of the participating agencies. Please be aware that you may be required to obtain or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level to accept a placement.


Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for an irregular/intermittent term

Non-Ongoing employment opportunities and secondments will be offered for a specified term of up to 12 months.
