Job Description

The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) is a Council of Australian Government (COAG) standards writing body that is responsible for the development of the National Construction Code (NCC), comprising the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and the Plumbing Code of Australia (PCA). The ABCB is a joint initiative of all three levels of government in Australia.

The role of Senior Project Officer sits within the ABCB’s National Construction Code Management and Product Certification team. This team has primary responsibility for the development and management of National Construction Code content, being the Building and Plumbing Codes of Australia. It also has responsibility for technical input into the development and maintenance of referenced building and plumbing standards, as well as the administration of the CodeMark and WaterMark product certification schemes.

This Senior Project Officer role is an excellent opportunity to work at the forefront of nationally focused regulatory reform in close collaboration with the regulatory community and industry. The successful applicant can expect to gain broad insight at a national level into the administration of a plumbing product certification scheme, its contribution to compliance with the National Construction Code, and to have meaningful input to the regulatory environment for the building and plumbing sectors. There is also the opportunity to engage with key industry groups and regulatory authorities, and participate as part of a diverse organisation that is working to ensure Australia has a competitive and productive industry whose outputs meet the requirements of the National Construction Code.

The successful candidate will ideally have a background and qualifications in plumbing, but broader qualifications and/or experience in related areas of the building industry will be considered. You will need to demonstrate broad knowledge of the application of the National Construction Code and its referenced documents, and the WaterMark certification scheme. You will have excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills, and experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, the development of technical policy and guidelines, the provision of technical advice to client groups or industry bodies, and knowledge of standards and specifications applicable to plumbing products will be highly regarded.
