Job Description

Duties


The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is also the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and reports to a Deputy Australian Statistician. The CIO/CISO is responsible for all ICT functions and activities, which includes an increased focus on information security.

The CIO/CISO will strategically lead and manage the Technology Services Division through a significant period of transformational change, delivering its agreed work program on time, on budget and to the specified level of quality, while building people capability and fostering the next generation of ABS Leaders.


The CIO/CISO will:

• Deliver major ICT programs and transformative change
• Lead agile development approaches, innovation and manage risk
• Deliver dependable, secure and effective ICT services
• Manage information security
• Lead people effectively, delegate, drive high performance and build the capability of staff
• Build strategic partnerships and engage with stakeholders across the ABS, in Australia and internationally
• Represent the ABS and communicate with influence.

The CIO/CISO will have an understanding of the statistics and services available from the ABS, an appreciation of the complexities of the ABS environment, and a demonstrated commitment to the Australian Public Service Values.

Senior Executive roles are generally located in the ABS Canberra Office, however our office locations and flexible work arrangements (including part-time) offer a range of prospects for candidates based outside Canberra noting travel to Canberra will be required on a regular basis. Consideration will be given to candidates wishing to move on a temporary basis.

 

Eligibility


It is a general expectation that employees of the Australian Public Service (APS) are Australian citizens or are intending to apply for citizenship.

You will be required to hold, or have no impediments towards obtaining a NV1 (Secret) security clearance.

You will be required to undergo a number of pre-employment checks, which may include a police records check and health clearance.
