Job Description


The position of Policy Officer is located in the PNG Policy and Coordination Section of the PNG and Solomon Islands Branch.

The Policy Officer will be responsible for contributing to the development and provision of policy advice on issues relating to the strategic directions of the PNG program, with a particular focus on the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. The role will include:

• developing and contributing to a range of policy papers including strategy and analysis documents;
• contributing to briefing for major meetings and visits involving the Minister or agency executive;
• preparing responses to a range of Ministerial and Parliamentary documents; and
• developing and maintaining relationships with key Australian stakeholders for the benefit of the PNG program.

The Policy Officer will work as part of a small team and will maintain contacts throughout AusAID and with other government and non-government agencies.



Candidates must be Australian citizens. This is a security assessed role and you will be required to either have, or be able to obtain, a security clearance at Negative Vetting 1 level.


Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for a specified term

If offered on a non-ongoing basis, the opportunity would be for a specified term of up to 18 months with
possible extension.
