Job Description


This position will undertake hydrological studies in support of the development, implementation and maintenance of existing, improved and new flood forecasting systems. Participation in an operational forecasting team during flood events is an essential requirement of the role as are; hydrological modelling, field investigations including maintenance of equipment, quality control of data and information systems, and liaison with external stakeholders which includes media interviews.

Relevant educational qualifications and significant experience working in hydrology are required for this position as is a manual driving licence. Ability to work as part of a team, highly effective communication skills and proficient IT skills are also integral to the position.

This position may require some travel, and some work outside normal working hours, including evenings/weekends/holidays during flood events. On occasions where overtime is required in addition to normal work hours to perform essential flood forecasting duties, overtime penalties can be paid.

This position would be suited to a Hydrologist/Hydraulic Modeller with 3-4 years experience and keen to progress their career and work in an interesting and challenging environment. Good training opportunities are available.


1. A degree of diploma from an Australian institute, or a comparable overseas qualification, which is appropriate to the duties; OR other comparable qualifications, which are appropriate to the duties
2. A current driving licence
