Job Description

Duties
INFORMATION ABOUT THE SECTION/BRANCH
Indigenous Coordination Centres and/or Regional Offices are managed by FaHCSIA and play a particular role in meeting its lead agency responsibility for Indigenous Affairs. They enable and ensure a whole-of-government collaborative approach; assist Australian Government departments with services including current intelligence and facilitation of engagement with Indigenous people, and provide a local base for short-term or permanent co-location of staff.

The core purpose of the Indigenous Coordination Centre and/or Regional Offices is, within its region and in the context of the Australian Government reform agenda, to:

1. Engage with and develop and sustain strong relationships with communities, organisations and key individuals.
2. Gather and provide active and current intelligence on all matters affecting the well-being of Indigenous people.
3. Maintain the highest level of understanding of local opportunities and challenges; identify, develop and implement approaches to deal with these, and monitor and report on progress against intended outcomes.
4. Coordinate the efforts of Australian Government agencies; encourage collaboration in delivery of services; and give coherence and context to the Australian Government reform agenda.
5. Manage funding agreements for FaHCSIA and other agencies.

This position provides corporate support and services in the Perth Indigenous Coordination Centre. It requires sound general knowledge of the role, functions, policies and procedures that impact on tasks performed in the office. Work is performed under general guidance with clear guidelines and established work practices. There may be discretion as to how tasks are organised and how precedents, procedures and guidelines are interpreted and applied. The role is important to the efficient and effective working relationships within the office.

Duties:
1. Work effectively as a member of a team.
2. Respond to general enquiries from members of the public, and provide information and advice.
3. Undertake operational and administrative tasks including applying policy and procedures; providing technical assistance and procedural guidance.
4. Use judgement in interpreting and applying legislation, instructions and guidelines, and in selecting and applying appropriate methods and processes.
5. Liaise and negotiate with departmental staff, clients and external agencies/organisations on matters relating to corporate services, including preparation and maintenance of accurate records (files), financial documents, property (houses and vehicles) and asset registers.
6. Prepare general correspondence.

To be eligible for engagement applicants must be Australian citizens or willing to apply for Australian citizenship.
